Nicko Cruises has announced that German writer and television presenter Hera Lind will join a leg of the Vasco da Gama's 2026-27 world cruise, adding a literary and cultural dimension to one of the line's most ambitious voyages to date.

About the World Cruise

The Vasco da Gama's world cruise itinerary spans an impressive 193 days, departing from Hamburg, Germany on 3 November 2026 and returning to the same port on 5 May 2027. Along the way, the ship will call at a wide range of destinations across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, offering guests one of the most comprehensive round-the-world cruise experiences currently on the market.

Hera Lind's Role Onboard

Hera Lind, a former classical singer whose novels became bestsellers throughout the 1990s, will host writing workshops and panel discussions during the sixth leg of the world cruise — a 30-day segment sailing from Papeete in Tahiti to Manila in the Philippines. With more than 22 million copies of her books sold worldwide, several of which have been adapted for both cinema and television, Lind brings considerable literary credentials to this cruise-hosted programme.

This isn't Lind's first appearance aboard the Vasco da Gama; she has joined the ship on previous sailings as well. For this voyage, she will be accompanied by her husband, Engelbert Lainer-Wartenberg.

Itinerary Highlights: Tahiti to Manila

The 30-day segment featuring Hera Lind begins on 22 January 2027 in Papeete, Tahiti, and takes guests through an extraordinary stretch of the South Pacific and Southeast Asia. Confirmed ports of call include:

  • Bora Bora, French Polynesia
  • Apia, Samoa
  • Fiji
  • Vanuatu
  • Rabaul, Papua New Guinea
  • Indonesia
  • Bohol, Philippines

The segment concludes in Manila on 20 February 2027, offering guests a rich blend of Pacific island culture, dramatic volcanic landscapes and Southeast Asian heritage across nearly a month at sea.

Why This Matters for World Cruise Travellers

Themed and author-hosted cruise segments have become an increasingly popular draw for long-format world cruises, giving guests the opportunity to engage directly with well-known cultural figures during extended sea days. For travellers considering a segment of Nicko Cruises' 2026-27 world cruise, the Tahiti-to-Manila leg offers both a rare South Pacific itinerary and the added appeal of Lind's onboard literary programming — a combination likely to attract strong interest well ahead of departure.
