Carnival Cruise Line Launches Carnival Rewards: A New Era of Cruise Loyalty
A New Era of Cruise Loyalty

Carnival Cruise Line has officially launched Carnival Rewards, a loyalty program the cruise line is calling first-of-its-kind in the industry. The new program lets guests earn points and stars not just from their cruise bookings, but from everyday shopping too — all redeemable for future cruises and onboard experiences.
For cruisers who've long wanted their loyalty recognised for more than how many times they've sailed, this launch marks a genuine shift in how cruise loyalty works.
What Is Carnival Rewards?
According to Carnival, the program is designed to reward guests "from first-time cruisers to repeaters" in ways that go beyond the traditional sail-count model most cruise loyalty programs are built on.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival, explained that cruise loyalty has traditionally been built around how often guests sail, and that Carnival Rewards is designed to go beyond that, recognizing the many ways guests engage with the brand. The goal, she said, is to give guests more flexibility and value tied to the experiences that matter most to them.
The Four Pillars of Carnival Rewards
Sid Krishna, Carnival's vice president of loyalty, broke the new program down into four core components:
- Carnival Rewards Points — Earned on every eligible Carnival purchase, including cruises, spa treatments, shore excursions, and casino play. These points can be redeemed as soon as the guest's next sailing.
- Status Qualifying Stars — Not redeemable like points, but a measure of status. Stars are earned based on dollars spent on eligible purchases, unlocking status levels within a rolling four-year window.
- Carnival Rewards Mastercard — A co-branded credit card that lets guests earn extra points and stars on everyday, non-cruise spending, accelerating their status faster.
- Milestone Recognition Program — Celebrates guests based on cumulative days sailed with Carnival, starting at 50 days and recognising every 100 days sailed thereafter.
How Guests Earn Points and Stars
Under the new structure, guests earn:
- 3 points for every dollar spent on eligible Carnival purchases (including gratuities)
- 3 stars for every dollar spent on those same eligible purchases
- 1 point for every casino point remaining at the end of a sailing
- 1 star for every casino point earned
Carnival Rewards Status Levels
Status is unlocked purely through stars, with four tiers:
Status Level Stars Required
Red Upon enrollment
Gold 10,000 stars
Platinum 50,000 stars
Diamond 100,000 stars
What Happens to Existing Cardholders?
Guests who already hold a Carnival Mastercard don't need to do anything — they will be automatically transitioned to the new Carnival Rewards Mastercard, and any existing point balances will transfer over as well. New cardholders can also earn bonus points on sign-up, while existing cardholders receive annual bonus points based on their spending.
Why This Matters for Your Next Cruise
Carnival Rewards essentially turns everyday spending — not just cruise bookings — into a pathway toward free cruises, onboard perks, and recognised status. Combined with the Milestone Recognition Program, even guests who don't sail frequently now have more ways to be rewarded and recognised for their loyalty to the brand.
If you're a regular Carnival cruiser or considering booking your first sailing, this is a great time to review how the new points-and-stars system could work in your favour — especially if you plan to pair it with the co-branded Mastercard for everyday spend.
