Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas Skips Naples Port Call Again in 2026

Royal Caribbean's newest Icon-class ship, Legend of the Seas, has skipped a scheduled stop in Naples for the second consecutive cruise, according to guest reports circulating on social media. The cancellations come just weeks into the ship's maiden season sailing the Western Mediterranean.

What Happened

The first disruption affected the ship's eight-night sailing between Civitavecchia and Barcelona on 25 July 2026. That itinerary was originally set to include four ports across Italy and Spain — Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Naples and La Spezia. Guest accounts indicate the Naples stop was cancelled the evening before the ship was due to arrive, with Marseille added in its place.

A near-identical situation played out again this week, with a Naples visit planned for 7 August 2026 also cancelled. Once again, Legend of the Seas diverted to Marseille instead, docking there on the same day the Naples call had originally been scheduled.

Why the Port Calls Were Cancelled

Royal Caribbean has attributed both cancellations to port restrictions following a recent dock assessment carried out by the Italian Port Authority. The cruise line says current pier conditions in Naples are preventing Legend of the Seas from calling at the port as originally planned, despite Naples remaining on the ship's published itinerary on a weekly basis through the end of October.

About Legend of the Seas

Legend of the Seas is the third vessel in Royal Caribbean's Icon-class series, following its maiden voyage on 4 July 2026. The 250,800-ton, 5,610-passenger ship is currently operating a programme of seven-night Western Mediterranean cruises through late October 2026, before repositioning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in early November for a winter season of Caribbean and Bahamas sailings.

What This Means for Travellers

For guests with upcoming Mediterranean cruises booked on Legend of the Seas, it's worth keeping an eye on itinerary updates in the lead-up to departure, as port substitutions of this kind can occur with limited notice due to dock or infrastructure issues at the original port. Marseille offers guests an alternative French Riviera experience in place of Naples' access to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, so travellers may wish to check with their cruise line or travel agent on shore excursion adjustments ahead of sailing.
